Hi! We are the Helmick family, living in Wheeling, WV. In early 2017, after a year of making healthy treats for our Boxers, Zeb, 9 at the time, asked if he could start a dog treat business. After much discussion between Mom and Dad (Betsy & Steve), researching online, and speaking with our WV Department of Agriculture, Zeb’s Barky Bites was born! We have grown from a single table Wheeling Farmers’ Market, to also offering mail order, and local delivery. 

We make handmade, preservative-free, whole-ingredient pet treats. Our products feature locally sourced, freshly ground, organic whole wheat flour, home-ground peanut butter, local West Virginia honey, and produce and meats purchased from small local businesses. The treats we make for your dogs are from the same ingredients on our dinner table.

Honestly, you will absolutely find others out there doing similar things. What sets us apart is that we truly want to know you and your pet. We want to see pictures, hear your funny pet stories, know how your pet chose you as their human, and support you in the difficult times we all go through as pet parents. Currently, we have six Barker Biters at home – 3 Boxers (Layla, Liam & Zeta – these pups, along with our sweet Lucy, were our original taste testers), a Poodle (Primrose – our rescue who is deaf, blind in one eye, and has a seizure disorder), a Super Mutt (Byron – our rescue who keeps us on our toes), and a Mini Goldendoodle (Bertie – who keeps everyone in line). We also have a very suspicious, temperamental cat named Lola.

We welcome any questions. Now, there will be times when you will hear us say, “That’s a question for your vet.” We don’t answer health questions, as we are not educated enough to.

We generally ship in 3-5 days. We try our best to get your order out as soon as we can. It can take a little longer if you catch us at a really busy time. Since the beginning, we’ve always done orders in the order they come in. Whether ordering one bag or 100 bags, you will be treated exactly the same.

We set postage at a flat $10, which I know seems like a lot. We don’t like it either, but we ship Priority Mail, because it is the most cost-effective for our customers and includes insurance and a tracking number. Priority Shipping is also different based on the box’s weight, zone, and size, so $10 has been our average shipping fee. We do offer free shipping for any order over $100 (pre-tax)
